Our Mission

What We Want To See

  • Our Vision: A community-based food system that increases access to healthy food, improves health outcomes, supports entrepreneurs, and builds generational wealth.
  • Our Mission: To build a healthy, equitable food system that creates better health outcomes and economic opportunities for marginalized communities in the DC metropolitan region. We adhere to the belief that:
    • All communities deserve equal access to fresh, healthy food
Achieving optimal health of community members requires moving beyond the “access” paradigm to a focus on community self-determination.
    • Food sovereignty requires control of food resources and food system assets - including land and water, food-related enterprises,  capital, and labor   - by community members.
    • Creating an integrated pipeline to jobs, economic opportunity, and community wealth-building to advance racial equity will contribute to a just society.
  •  Our Values
    • Innovation - We encourage novel ways of thinking to address community challenges.
    • Accountability - We earn the trust of the communities we support and our partners by conducting our work per ethical principles.
    • Teamwork - We collaborate across programs internally and with members of the community towards a common goal.
    • Equity - We grant equitable access to opportunities and resources and aim to restructure systemic barriers to racial equity.
    • Quality - We abide by high ethical and performance standards
