Food Access Programs
At Dreaming Out Loud, we believe that access to healthy food is a basic human right. However, due to the historical legacy of slavery, Black people continue to experience challenges accessing fresh and healthy produce. We are working at mitigating discriminatory practices, strengthening Black people, and informing positive health outcomes through our Food Access Programs.
These programs include:
- WIC Home Delivery:
The WIC home delivery program was designed to promote food and health equity. It provides an avenue for increasing food access among WIC participants residing in the DC metro area. To achieve the program’s goals, Dreaming Out Loud partners with DC Health to determine creative ways for families to redeem their WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program Benefits. Marginalized families in DC are provided with a medium for ordering fresh, locally sourced produce through our CSA website. Ordered produce is delivered straight to their door once their payment is processed.Learn more about DOL’s WIC Home Delivery Program.
- Medically Tailored Meal Program:
Recognizing the linkage between nutritious meals and positive health outcomes, we increase access to healthy food and medically tailored meals through our partnerships with health care and academic institutions. Our capacity as a regional food hub enables us to support community members in dire need of nutritious food. Our agile and tactical approach allows us to meet program participants where they are; be it at their residences or at our markets.
