Growing up, Meagan was more into books than cooks. In her formative years she was nerded out, wanting to be a marine biologist, then a doctor, then a dietitian, and now she has dedicated her time to solving problems with food access & systems and its intersection with human health. Her most recent course of study in nutrition & dietetics at a land-grant university led her to food access & systems. At this institution, she invested time in urban agriculture via trainings, internships, and contract positions. The importance of engaging in the economics related to farmers markets as an indirect way to improve human holistic health began in full force with her work at Dreaming Out Loud, Inc (DOL). Meagan is a manager on the markets team and owns DOL’s farmers markets as well as DOL’s CSA, purchasing from socially disadvantaged producers and bringing their goods to a marketplace that has historically left these producers out of the conversation. The markets team aggregates produce and healthy food products and delivers these goods via CSAs and farmers markets to communities who are experiencing food scarcity. Meagan is excited to help perpetuate the forward moving of food systems and communities within the DC metro region with Dreaming Out Loud, Inc.
